SANGANAI/HLANGANANI ALL STAKEHOLDERS BUSINESS FORUM 2012
This all stakeholders forum seeks to deliberate and resolve or at least map out a plan for
the resolution of various factors affecting the rapid development of tourism in
Zimbabwe.
The three session forum will focus on how national policies
have affected the growth of tourism in Zimbabwe and on strategies that can be
employed to develop a positive destination image.
Two key moderators in Dr. Shingi Munyeza and DPM Professor
Aurther Mutambara will lead panellist from relevant government and private
sector organisation through the forum.
Tourists are on record for preferring destination Zimbabwe
to other destinations with an almost similar product offering. However, most
would rather opt for alternative destinations such as South Africa, Kenya or Tanzania
because of for instance difficulty in accessibility of desired destination,
problems with customs, road blocks, corrupt officials and many other
impediments that may not be so profound in almost similar destinations.
Destination Zimbabwe’s image is among the worst according to
many safety reports in various media. We are perceived more dangerous than some
war torn countries, and although this perception is far from being true, a
strategy is needed to reinstate the confidence of tourists so that they can
return to Zimbabwe as a preferred holiday destination.
This forum seeks to especially tackle these issues and will
see players in the tourism and hospitality industry get a chance to question, challenge
and advise relevant authorities to ensure that destination Zimbabwe is quickly
perceived for what it really is and also that national policies do not deter
the development of tourism.
Honourable Prof Mutambara was tasked in the Government of
National Unity to come up with a National Brand. Dr. Munyeza is a guru in the
Hospitality and Tourism Industry. Their vast experiences in their relevant
fields of expertise can guarantee some meaningful discussion that may lead to
actionable resolutions for a brighter future for Zimbabwe Tourism.
